Lovely and luxe, magical and mystical… I am excited to share with you this series of Zodiac and Birthstone Inspired Printable Art. 

I don’t know about you, but there never seems to be enough time in my day to work on all the projects running through my head. I’m so passionate about creating resources for other designers and sharing tips, tricks and tutorials that I struggle to find time to do some bigger illustration projects. One such project I had in mind was to do a series of zodiac sign posters, something bold and glamorous that would combine the zodiac and birthstones. I wanted to showcase my 24K Gold Magic brushes as well as the “Raw Crystal” jewel collection that I recently finished!

Each zodiac sign is pictured as a celestial queen with a starry golden crown and matching zodiac jewelry. The surrounding birthstones correspond to your birth month and are accented by dazzling gold! A solid background color around the oval design gives it a luxe and refined look. The attention to detail is extreme. Each stone was hand illustrated, no two are alike. I illustrated a custom zodiac icon for each sign, which i worked into both the crown as well as the earrings of my mystical queen. The oval surrounding the queen has characteristics of your zodiac sign in elegant, subtle lettering!

I really got to use the full spectrum of my Photoshop brush techniques on this astrological / mystical set of illustrations. To create the jewels, opals, and pearls I sampled colors directly from photographs and used my pattern stamp technique and color-blending Photoshop brushes to create dazzling stone illustrations — and no re-coloring the same illustration here! No two stones are alike!

For the stone settings, I used my 24K Gold Brushes. I originally envisioned more gold, but sometimes when you have a lot going on, you have to pare back a bit somewhere. So I kept the gold to a minimum and I think it looks elegant against the solid background color! I used the wet paint / mixer brush technique for the border of the hair as well as a dry mixer brush to create sparkles on the crown. All in all, this design was definitely brought to you by the power of Photoshop brushes! I don’t know HOW I would be able to create something like this without them… in fact, I assure you I could not LOL!

I got to know the zodiac signs a lot better preparing for this. If you notice, there is a subtle line of text around the center oval, with the characteristics of the zodiac sign. I also illustrated my own simple zodiac icons / symbols for the center of the crown and matching earrings!

Of course, because I am totally OCD and wanted to use my birthstone concept, this meant that for each zodiac sign I had to create 2 different versions, because each sign is split between 2 different months! So find your zodiac sign and month below and let me know what you think!
